Laser Tattoo Removal (Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser)
Safely fade unwanted ink and reveal clear, healthy skin
At Sevore Aesthetics, we use advanced Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser technology to safely and effectively remove unwanted tattoos.
This gold-standard system delivers precise bursts of light energy that shatter the tattoo pigment into microscopic particles, which are then naturally eliminated by your body’s lymphatic system.
Whether you wish to fully remove a tattoo or lighten it for a cover-up, our laser treatment offers a reliable, non-invasive solution with minimal downtime.
How It Works
The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser emits very short, high-energy pulses of light that are selectively absorbed by the ink particles in the skin.
Black and dark inks absorb the most energy and respond quickly.
Coloured inks (red, green, blue) may require additional sessions, which we can adjust for using multiple wavelengths.
As the laser breaks the pigment apart, the body gradually flushes the fragments away over several weeks.
A patch test is required at least 24 hours before your first session to determine skin suitability and tailor the energy settings.
Why Multiple Sessions?
Tattoo ink is layered within the skin, and pigments vary in depth and density. Each session progressively targets deeper pigment layers while allowing the skin time to heal in between.
For best results, we recommend a course of 6–10 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart, depending on the tattoo’s size, colour, age, and depth.

Pre-Treatment Advice
To ensure the safest and most effective results:
A patch test must be completed at least 24 hours before treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for 2 weeks before and after treatment.
Do not use retinol, acids, or active products on the area for 1 week prior.
The treatment area must be clean, free from makeup, creams, and fake tan.
Do not wax, pluck, or shave the area on the day of treatment.
Inform your practitioner if you are taking any medications, antibiotics, or have a history of keloid scarring.
Post-Treatment Advice
After your tattoo removal session, the skin may appear red, raised, or slightly blistered — this is a normal inflammatory response.
To support healing:
Apply a cold compress or Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin.
Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours.
Avoid picking or scratching any scabs or blisters.
Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
Avoid spicy foods and alcohol for 24 hours to minimise inflammation.
Do not use active ingredients (retinol, acids, or scrubs) for 2 weeks post-treatment.
Apply SPF 50+ daily to protect the area from UV exposure and prevent pigmentation changes.
Mild scabbing and fading occur gradually — full results develop over several months as the body clears pigment.
FAQs – Laser Tattoo Removal
Q: How does laser tattoo removal work?
A: The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser sends short pulses of light into the skin, breaking the ink into tiny particles which are naturally removed by the body over time.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: On average 6–10 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart are required, depending on tattoo colour, depth, and age.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: You’ll feel a quick, warm flicking sensation — similar to the snap of an elastic band. A cooling system and topical numbing can be used to enhance comfort.
Q: Can all colours be removed?
A: Black and dark inks respond best. Red, green, and blue pigments may require additional sessions or may fade rather than fully disappear.
Q: Do I need a patch test?
A: Yes, a mandatory patch test is required at least 24 hours before your first session.
Q: Is it safe for all skin tones?
A: Yes. Our Nd:YAG laser allows safe and effective treatment across all skin types (Fitzpatrick 1–6).
Q: Will it leave a scar?
A: Although there is a risk of scarring with any laser, in most cases, scarring is not a significant risk for tattoo removal with the ND Yag laser. Tattoo removal has become associated with scarring because the older generation of lasers used for tattoo removal were overly aggressive and carried a very high risk of scarring. The ND Yag laser does not heat the surrounding skin significantly and the risk of scarring is much reduced. The risk of scarring is mainly associated with a genetic pre-disposition to forming scar tissue and the presence of resistant, green pigment. To reduce the risk, we carry out an extensive medical evaluation to identify high-risk clients; we also have an adjunct treatment that can stop scar tissue forming and even improve existing.
Q:How many sessions are needed?
A: Customers will see a reduction after the first treatment however to completely remove a tattoo depending on the ink colour and how deep it is in the skin, it could be between 3-5 treatments with intervals of 6 weeks between treatments. In some clients this more sessions may be necessary for complete removal.
Q: When will I see results?
A: Results can be observed immediately after the first session.
Q: Can I have a new tattoo over the area later?
A: Yes, once the skin has fully healed — usually around 8–12 weeks after your final treatment.
